An insight into the kind of financial outlay which would be required on the part of the Barcelona board to terminate the contract of Marc-André ter Stegen has been forthcoming online.
The info comes courtesy of Diario Sport, and suggests that such a development is extremely unlikely for the time being.
The subject of goalkeeper Ter Stegen’s relationship with Barcelona has of course dominated the headlines across Spain over the last 24 hours.
This comes after word was forthcoming that the German has rejected the Blaugrana’s request to sign off on his medical report following a recent surgical procedure on his back.
As a result, Barca have been unable to make use of Ter Stegen’s freed wages to register one or more of their summer signings with La Liga.
This marks just the latest development in what has long marked a tense back-and-forth between club and player.
So serious has the situation become, that it has even been suggested that the Camp Nou brass could seek out the termination of Ter Stegen’s contract.
As alluded to above, however, as things stand, any such route looks unlikely.
As per a report from Sport:
‘Ter Stegen has a contract until June 2028. Three more seasons and the German is not willing to forgive a single euro of what he has signed. Therefore, if the club wanted to break the contract unilaterally, it should pay him the full amount agreed: a figure estimated at about 42 million euros gross.’
