Blackburn Rovers have richly benefitted from having Sammie Szmodics at their disposal during the 2023/24 campaign.

Following the departure of Ben Brereton-Diaz, Rovers needed someone else to step up to the plate and become their main threat in front of goal.

Szmodics, who signed from Peterborough United last summer, has been able to fill that void by scoring consistently and proving to be a thorn in the side of many Championship defences.

His goals have played a huge part in keeping the Lancashire side in the second tier - and it wouldn't be a surprise to see him move on this summer because of this.

Thankfully for John Eustace's side, they are in a strong negotiating position ahead of the summer, with the player having another two years left on his contract at Ewood Park.

And after that, Blackburn have the option to extend his deal by a further 12 months, allowing Blackburn to demand a huge amount for another player, just one window after selling Adam Wharton.

The competition for his signature should help Rovers to generate a decent fee for him.

There are a number of teams who are keen to secure his signature, with Luton Town and Sheffield United both reportedly in the race for the player.

Both are set to go down though - and that may impact their ability to secure the 28-year-old's signature.

Brentford, however, look set to remain in the top flight and that could give them a great opportunity to get a deal over the line, with their interest being documented.

With Ivan Toney potentially departing this summer, having a goalscorer like Szmodics could be extremely useful for the Bees.

Everton are another team thought to be keen, but a takeover will surely need to be completed before they make an approach for the Blackburn man, whilst Leicester City have also expressed an interest.

How much Sammie Szmodics is estimated to be earning at Blackburn Rovers

According to an estimate from Capology, Szmodics earns £15,000 per week at Ewood Park.

That comes as a bit of a surprise considering he only moved from League One last summer, but he deserves to be one of the top earners at Rovers.

Capology has estimated that he is the third-biggest earner, potentially behind John Fleck and Dominic Hyam.

It wouldn't be a surprise if he earns more than Fleck though, with the former Blade only putting pen to paper on a short-term deal in the end.

£15,000 per week is a decent sum of money considering Szmodics is at a second-tier club, but he deserves that pay packet for his contributions to the club's cause, with the player definitely providing value for money.

And it's a wage that top-tier clubs like the Bees and the Toffees will be able to afford.

With the Toffees' takeover uncertainty in mind though, Thomas Frank's side may have the upper hand in this race.

Toney is likely to be a high earner and if he's sold, that could allow them to buy Szmodics and give him a very healthy pay rise.

But even if Toney doesn't leave, you feel the Bees will be able to afford his salary.
