That is according to a fresh update from Ellen Ellard of Sky Sports News on the publication's Transfer Centre Live Blog (09:19/26/06) as the West London outfit hope to have sourced a bargain figure as they fend off strong competition for the winger's signature.

This adds to what has proven to be an extremely exciting week at Loftus Road, as it was confirmed on Wednesday morning that the club had appointed former Rennes and RC Strasbourg head coach, Julien Stephan, which brought an end to the R's long-standing managerial hunt after Marti Cifuentes was placed on gardening leave back in April.

Poku has been a man in-demand since the beginning of the summer, with rumours circulating that the Ghanaian was set for a move to some of Rangers' upcoming Championship rivals in the form of Ipswich Town and Birmingham City, as well as links to SPFL giants Rangers and potential moves across the continent.

And, whilst Peterborough are able to source an age-related compensation fee for the 23-year-old, Rangers supporters will hope it proves to be a serious steal, and a deal which begins the Stephan era in W12 as they mean to go on.

Poku has been of interest to Championship clubs for some time given his exploits in League One at the Weston Homes Stadium, with eventual promotion-winners Burnley interested in striking a deal before the winger suffered a three-month hamstring problem.

As interest from Birmingham began to circle, it was then exclusively revealed by FLW that Chris Davies' side were preparing a £30,000 per-week contract offer for the man who starred against them during Posh's EFL Trophy final success at Wembley Stadium, in the hope that they would edge out Rangers in the race for his services.

Since then, Blues have turned their attention to other targets, whilst Ipswich were also exclusively named by FLW as a potential destination for Poku. But, in a shock twist, the man who registered 12 goals and 11 assists in just 31 games set to join the Hoops, with the fee the club are set to part with now revealed.

Posh owner, Darragh MacAnthony, stated that Poku would leave the Cambridgeshire club for "millions and millions" in compensation fees this summer as interest intensified. That could still be the case, as it has been revealed by Sky Sports that Rangers will pay at least £900,000 plus add-ons - the extent of which haven't been disclosed - for the wide man's signature after Football Insider reported that he was set for a medical with the side from the capital.

Poku does have limited Championship experience to call upon ahead of this expected move. However, it's fair to say the ex-Colchester United winger is a completely different player to the one which played just 20 times in the second-tier back in 2021/22.

The R's hit a modest return of 53 goals in 46 games last season, but acquiring the services of one of the third-tier's leading creative lights will provide a major boost in terms of goalscoring feats, especially if Poku is to stay injury-free and translate such form in the division above.

Another major factor which could have swayed the move on a personal level is the calibre of players which Stephan has previously worked with, with the 44-year-old playing a part in the development of UEFA Champions League winners such as Desire Doue and Eduardo Camavinga.

Whilst Poku is slightly older than the aforementioned duo, if Stephan is able to get a similar tune out of the wide man, a Premier League move cannot be ruled out in the years to come.
