We compared the season ticket prices of East Anglian rivals Ipswich Town and Norwich City.
After just one year apart, East Anglian rivals Ipswich Town and Norwich City will be reunited in the Championship next season.
Ipswich returned to the Premier League for the first time in 22 years last season after winning back-to-back promotions, but the top flight proved to be a step too far for them, and they were relegated after finishing second bottom with a total of just 22 points.
That means they will face Norwich in the second tier once again next season, but while supporters of the Norfolk outfit will have revelled in the demise of their neighbours, they had little to cheer about themselves last term as they recorded an underwhelming 13th-placed finish.
The Canaries have certainly had the edge over the Tractor Boys in their meetings of late, with their last defeat in the fixture coming all the way back in April 2009, but the overall balance of power has shifted towards Suffolk in recent years as Kieran McKenna's side have risen up the leagues.
Ipswich had been on an upward trajectory since McKenna's arrival in December 2021, going from mid-table in League One to the Premier League, but last season's relegation was their first real setback under the Northern Irishman.
However, having signed a number of Championship stars last summer, the Tractor Boys looked well-equipped to compete for an instant return to the top flight next season, and although star striker Liam Delap has joined Chelsea for a fee of £30 million, they are unlikely to lose too many more of their key players this summer.
McKenna confirmed back in April that he would remain at Portman Road in the second tier, and while recent rumours that he was under consideration by Brentford to replace Thomas Frank may have created some doubt in the minds of Ipswich supporters, it has turned out to be little more than mere speculation.
While the Tractor Boys seem set to hold on to their highly-rated manager, there has been a change in the dugout at Norwich this summer, with Liam Manning leaving his role at Bristol City to replace Johannes Hoff Thorup at Carrow Road.
After the Canaries' play-off hopes were ended, Thorup was dismissed in April with two games of the season remaining, and the decision came as a surprise to many, with the Dane himself admitting that he believed he was brought in to oversee a long-term project, rather than being required to deliver immediate success.
However, after leading Bristol City to a sixth-placed finish last season, Manning will be hoping to better or match that achievement with Norwich, while he will also be keen to extend his new club's 16-year unbeaten run in the East Anglian derby against Ipswich.
With both teams expected to be in promotion contention next season, it could be an exciting campaign ahead for Ipswich and Norwich, and as the pair prepare to do battle again, we compared the price of a season ticket at each club.
While Ipswich's renewal window has now closed, the price of the most expensive adult season ticket at Portman Road in the North Stand Lower was £412, which represents a 10% increase from last season, despite the club now being in a lower division.
The Tractor Boys had an average attendance of 29,742 in the Premier League last season, with many of their home games virtually selling out, and they are likely to regularly attract similar numbers in the Championship next term, particularly if they are competing at the top end of the table.
Having picked up just seven points on their own patch in the entirety of last season, with their only victory coming against Chelsea in December, Ipswich will need to vastly improve that record in the upcoming campaign if they are to challenge for promotion, but their home ground did prove to be a fortress during their previous spell in the second tier.
The price of the most expensive season ticket at Carrow Road is significantly higher than their East Anglian rivals, with Norwich charging a staggering £636 for seats in certain areas of the South Stand and the City Stand, and the club cited rising costs as a reason for the slight price increase.
Like Ipswich, the Canaries often record impressive attendances, and they had an average gate of 26,316 last season, which was the seventh-highest in the Championship behind Sheffield Wednesday, Coventry City, Sheffield United, Derby County, Leeds United and Sunderland, but it proved to be a frustrating campaign for supporters as their side failed to seriously push for the top six.
