The 22-year-old has shone at Villa Park since making the move from Boro, and is now being looked at by Chelsea

Aston Villa will likely need to continue to raise money from player sales to stay onside with the financial rules set by both the Premier League and UEFA if they are to remain competing at the top of English football.

Therefore, Middlesbrough fans will have one ear on any transfer rumours associated with outgoings at Villa Park this summer and, more specifically, ones surrounding Morgan Rogers.

Boro sold the exciting 22-year-old to Aston Villa midway through the 2023/24 campaign for a base sum of £8 million, just six months after they bought him from Manchester City.

Add-ons for the deal made the potential fee for Rogers worth up to £15 million, and you'd estimate that the fee has almost reached that, after Middlesbrough received payment when Villa qualified for the Champions League and Rogers made his England debut later that year.

The former West Brom youth product enjoyed a breakout season in his first full term at Villa Park, contributing 19 goals in the Premier League and excelling in the Champions League, but with Unai Emery's side falling just short of reaching a second successive Champions League qualification, the Englishman has understandably caught the eye of clubs set to compete in Europe's premiere competition next season.

Middlesbrough in for healthy windfall if Morgan Rogers is sold to Chelsea

Birmingham Live have reported that Morgan Rogers has admirers at Chelsea, and the Blues' Champions League status for 2025/26 could put them in a position to make a move for the 22-year-old.

In the same article, it is noted that Middlesbrough negotiated a 20% sell-on clause when they sold Rogers to the Premier League outfit.

The Guardian has reported on Arsenal's interest in the promising attacking midfielder, too, and has said that bringing Rogers to North London would likely cost them "north of £50 million."

So, if a deal of £50 million or more is agreed, Aston Villa stand in good stead to make around £40 million profit on Morgan Rogers this summer, which is great news for Middlesbrough fans.

20% of that profit amounts to around £8 million, meaning that the final price for a player who played just 32 games for the club in a six-month spell would be approximately £20 million, which represents a great bit of business for the Teeside club.

Morgan Rogers sale this summer is unlikely

Some bad news for Boro fans, though, comes in the form of the Telegraph report in late May, as John Percy detailed that Aston Villa would not accept any fee for Rogers this summer.

While Unai Emery's side need to offload players and generate income this summer, there are plenty of other names high on the list of potential departees this summer, such as Leon Bailey, Emi Buendia, Alex Moreno and Luca Digne.

So Middlesbrough may not be in line for a sizable payday this coming summer, but with Rogers still at an age where he can improve significantly, there's no ruling out that an even bigger windfall may come into fruition in a few seasons' time.
