The 39-year-old recently called time on his 13-year stint with European giants Real Madrid and will leave Los Blancos as the most decorated player in the club’s illustrious history.

Swansea will be sure to reap the benefits both on and off the pitch next season, with the extra attention a Ballon d’Or winner is certain to bring.

Following his Madrid exit, Modric has been spotted eyeing up a house on the outskirts of Swansea as he looks to commit to his new project.

According to the Sun, Modric is snapping up a five-bedroom mansion in the Gower village of Three Crosses, estimated to cost £ 1.1 million.

The veteran was spotted by local residents when looking around the property, and word quickly spread.

Modric is buying the huge mansion from former Swansea footballer Leon Britton, who put the property on the market in 2017.

He still owns a £10.1m home in Madrid but has decided to expand into the Welsh city after taking a minority stake in the Swans, whose training ground is a short drive from the mansion.

An exciting new dawn could be on the horizon for Swansea

The footballing legend getting involved with the Swans doesn't mean that he is going to use his earnings from his playing career to bankroll the club and launch them into the next stratosphere. However, he will bring increased attention from around the globe, attracting the focus of fans and potential investors.

Other EFL teams have well-known figures as part of their ownership. Birmingham City have NFL legend Tom Brady, whilst Wrexham are co-owned by Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

These clubs have enjoyed a clear upward trajectory since adding these stars to their cast, a trend Swansea will be hoping to join.

Modric’s extra stature within the game could help them even further, adding a lure that even Birmingham and Wrexham don’t have.

In a statement released through the club, Modric said: “This is an exciting opportunity. Swansea has a strong identity, an incredible fanbase, and the ambition to compete at the highest level.

“Playing at the highest level, I believe I can provide my experience to the club. My goal is to support the club’s growth in a positive way and to help to build an exciting future."

Time will tell to what extent Modric’s investment in Swansea will have. However, if the legendary midfielder is purchasing property close to the club, it could be assumed he’s taking his new task seriously.
