Looking at how much Burnley or Leeds United may have to shell out on wages for Jamie Vardy amid their interest in the departing Leicester striker.

Having both had their automatic promotion to the Premier League confirmed as early as Easter Monday, Leeds United and Burnley are turning their attention towards a potentially busy summer to ensure they give themselves the best chance to avoid an immediate return to the second-tier.

Leeds’ uncertainty goes beyond the playing squad, with reports suggesting that the Whites could still sack manager Daniel Farke despite their impressive campaign.

However, there will have to be some additions and raising of the floor in terms of the quality of his squad next season and Burnley, alongside Leeds, have now been linked with Jamie Vardy.

The former England international has already announced that he will be departing Leicester City at the end of the season, but the 38-year-old is set to be keen on remaining in the Premier League.

With the help of Capology's estimates, Football League World has looked at what it may cost Burnley or Leeds in terms of salary to bring in the Premier League and FA Cup winner.

What Jamie Vardy earns at Leicester

According to Capology, Jamie Vardy earns £140,000 gross salary per week, which comes to £7,280,000 per year and is comfortably the highest wage of any Leicester City player.

Nobody else at the King Power Stadium is said to earn over £90,000 per week, with Odsonne Edouard, on loan from Crystal Palace, and Harry Winks, despite a recent bust-up with Ruud van Nistelrooy, earning that figure as the next biggest earners at the club.

It is said that Leicester have an overall weekly wage budget of £1,282,500 with as many as 11 players earning £50,000 or more, despite the fact that they were relegated from this season’s Premier League with six games to go.

That figure of £1,282,500 is the 13th highest wage bill in the Premier League with only three clubs, Southampton, Brentford and Ipswich Town, with a weekly salary of less than £1,000,000.

Both Leeds United and Burnley are the top two biggest spenders in the Championship in terms of their weekly wage budgets, but they would both be rock-bottom of the Premier League table for their overall weekly payroll.

Vardy earning £140,000 per week now is not something that he can surely expect for next season, but even if he was to take a 50% wage cut and earn £70,000 next season, then it would be a massive financial package for Leeds and Burnley to commit to.

Leeds, for example, do have a few players earning £50,000 or more, with their highest paid player being Patrick Bamford on that figure of £70,000 per week, once again, according to Capology.

Burnley do not have a single player earning £50,000 or more, with their highest earner being club captain and this season’s top scorer, Josh Brownhill, who reportedly earns £45,000 per week.

So, if Vardy took a 50% pay cut on what his current apparent salary is at Leicester, then he would be the joint highest paid player at Elland Road and still earn £25,000 more than the highest paid player at Turf Moor.
