How much Barcelona paid to terminate Clément Lenglet’s contract | OneFootball

La Liga giants Barcelona were forced to hand over a minimal fee, to terminate the contract of out-of-favour defender Clément Lenglet.

That’s according to Diario Sport, citing Jijantes, who have on Wednesday provided an insight into the situation.

The name of stopper Lenglet of course positioned itself centre stage in the Spanish media headlines early this week.

As much came after Barcelona announced that the Frenchman’s time with the club had come to an end, opening the door for Lenglet to pen permanent terms with Diego Simeone’s Atlético Madrid.

Initial reports suggested that the 29-year-old had given the green light to his contract termination at no cost to the Camp Nou brass.

This, though, was in fact not quite the case.

As per Sport:

‘According to information from Jijantes, Clément Lenglet’s letter of freedom to leave Barça had a price for the Blaugrana entity. Specifically, the amount that FC Barcelona would have paid is 1.5 million euros.’

Still, this proved a drop in the water, when taking into consideration the €32 million owed to Lenglet over the remaining three years of his contract with the Blaugrana.
