According to Ben Jacobs, the Tractor Boys do not intend to sell the defender amid speculation over his future at Portman Road.

Woolfenden has come through the academy system at the Suffolk outfit, and has been a regular part of Kieran McKenna’s side throughout his time in charge as manager.

However, the 26-year-old was not involved for Ipswich’s two opening games of the new Championship season, remaining an unused substitute in draws against Birmingham City and Southampton.

It has been reported that Coventry have seen an offer for Woolfenden turned down by Ipswich.

It’s believed that the Championship side are not looking to sell the centre-back, with just under two weeks remaining in the summer market.

It has also been reported by TWTD that Stoke City are among the other clubs also interested in signing the player.

However, Sheffield United’s pursuit of the player has reportedly cooled after initially considering an approach last winter.

It remains to be seen what kind of offer was made by the Sky Blues, who are in the market for defensive reinforcement in the late stages of the window.

Woolfenden signed a new deal with Ipswich earlier this year, which keeps him at the club until the summer of 2027.

Luke Woolfenden’s importance to Ipswich

Woolfenden was a key part of the Ipswich side when McKenna oversaw promotion from League One and then the Championship in back-to-back seasons.

He featured 82 times across the two campaigns, before having his game time reduced in the Premier League.

The defender played 15 times in the top flight, with the Tractor Boys going straight back down with a 19th place finish.

He has yet to appear this season, with Ipswich set to visit Preston North End next on 23 August.

Woolfenden still has a role in Ipswich squad

Woolfenden is arguably now fourth choice centre-back at Ipswich, so losing him wouldn’t be a massive blow to the side.

However, he could yet still have a role in McKenna’s plans that could mean keeping him would still be preferable unless a big offer comes in.

Ipswich will want to make use of their big squad by rotating during the busier periods of the campaign, so Woolfenden will likely get minutes this season if he stays at Portman Road.

Given he came through the academy, his connection to supporters may also make him a valuable asset to keep in the squad and the dressing room.
