Didier Deschamps has called up Adrien Rabiot (29) to the France squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Ukraine (5th September) and Iceland (9th September), despite the midfielder’s unclear future at Olympique de Marseille.
The 53-cap international has been sidelined at OM since his altercation in Rennes on August 15, which led to the club placing him on the transfer market. However, Deschamps has underlined his continued trust in the former PSG and Juventus player.
“I’ve spoken with Adrien, I won’t go into details,” explained the France coach at his press conference on Wednesday, transcribed by La Provence. “He did pre-season, he played the first match [at Rennes], and then what happened happened. It’s not an easy situation for him. I don’t know what will happen by Monday, but when he joins us, his situation will be clear.”
The France boss refused to be drawn into the ongoing tensions at Marseille, stressing only his faith in the player’s contribution to Les Bleus. “I’m not going to say who’s right or wrong. I care about Adrien Rabiot for what he gives us, and what he can still bring.”GFFN | George Boxall
