Enzo Fernandez got a lot of praise for his performance on Tuesday night in the win over Southampton, and on TalkSport Jason Cundy went a step further and praised the young midfielder’s obvious passion and commitment to the Blues cause.
“There is something about his body language at the moment. Even though it’s been a bad run, he has stood up. There are leadership qualities in every game that I see that he’s now displaying on the pitch. We don’t have a huge amount of leaders in the squad, but I’m looking at him now,” the former Chelsea player said.
“I saw him after the Aston Villa game, how broken he was, he was absolutely distraught at the fact that we didn’t pick up at least a point that we deserved. There is something about his performances now. He is maturing every game.”
Enzo Maresca also picked out his namesake for particular praise after the game on Tuesday night.

Cundy isn’t the only one to notice. There were multiple videos doing the rounds after the Villa game which showed him being the last player to remain clapping the fans, and the one expressing the most frustration and pain at the defeat.
We’re pretty good at detecting when a player is doing that sort of thing for the cameras and when they really mean it. Enzo’s efforts that day and his excellent performance and passionate display on Tuesday have us convinced that it’s all very genuine.
As Cundy says, he’s getting better and better, and if we can get the rest of the team to play with the same desire he does, we will be in a much better place.
