FC Barcelona have not been too active in terms of transfers in this ongoing winter transfer window. Neither sales nor exits have been happening or taking place, and the club’s priority has been something else entirely. For Barcelona, this window was all about renewals for the most part.

After renewing the likes of Ronald Araujo, Pedri, and now Gavi as well, La Blaugrana would have felt that their window was a rather successful one. However, it turns out that they may have just received some extremely good news just as the winter window is about to close.

Former Barcelona midfielder Nico Gonzalez had been linked to a move to Premier League side Manchester City, and due to the player having a rather significant sell-on clause, this move was one that the Catalan club could benefit from a lot if it ended up happening.

Now, according to Fabrizio Romano, it definitely is happening after all. Pep Guardiola’s side was keen on acquiring his services, and it now seems like the Manchester-based club will be getting the Spanish midfielder all to themselves after trying to negotiate with FC Porto.

Despite trying to lower the price, it turns out that Manchester City has finally given in to the €60 million asking price from Porto as per his release clause. However, Romano has mentioned that the payment will amount to that same value but with a slightly different formula.

Either way, the news is a great boost for Barcelona as they look to sort out their finances. With this move, the 40% sell-on clause attached to the player’s current contract could see the Catalan giants earn around €24 million, and that is a significant financial injection in itself.

Having left the club back in 2023, the Spaniard has been making a decent name for himself ever since. However, this move to the Premier League could be his biggest opportunity yet ever since his chance with Barcelona, and it is definitely an interesting development to keep an eye on.
