Wrexham AFC are reportedly interested in Luton Town striker Caluey Woodrow, according to Football Insider.

The forward was playing Premier League football as recently as last May, though just one start this season has left the former Barnsley man somewhat ostracised at Kenilworth Road.

While the Championship and beyond proved too difficult for Woodrow in 2024, the 30-year-old has an impressive scoring record in League One, and could rejuvenate a now-stagnant career with the Red Dragons.

His solitary season in England's third-tier saw 16 goals in 31 appearances, as Barnsley achieved promotion in 2018-19. Replicating anything close to those numbers would surely represent a coup for the Welsh side.

"There's definitely a talent there" says Wrexham pundit

With Phil Parkinson's side linked to a plethora of strikers this winter, FLW asked resident Wrexham fan pundit, Liam Grice, where the Cauley Woodrow rumour ranked among the most realistic and/or best fits for the club this coming term.

"I think it's certainly a more realistic option for us. Obviously, he's not played a lot of football in the last couple of years, which maybe isn't the best when we'll probably be demanding a lot off of him if he does come in.

"But there's definitely a talent there, and he has scored goals in the past so he's got the pedigree.

"There's no doubt that he is a good player, in general, and I think his experience, despite not being the oldest, would be quite crucial in a team looking to progress up the table.

"It's definitely a more realistic signing. Whether it's the best fit, I'm not too sure. I can't really pretend that I've watched too much of him, because, as I said, he's barely played in the last few years.

"But I'm sure he would fit in. If Phil Parkinson wants him to, he'll certainly fit in."

A final statement that exemplifies the fanbase's undying trust in their manager's judgement, an enviable outlook for the majority of EFL clubs.

A consistent focal point could elevate Wrexham to new heights

Despite being heavily involved in the conversation for automatic promotion, and currently sitting joint fifth in the division for 'goals scored', Wrexham have yet to solve an ongoing conundrum in their number nine position that could be the difference between them and their nearest peers.

This is a relatively unfamiliar problem in the Reynolds and McElhenney era, as thanks to Paul Mullin's 90 league goals in three seasons, centre-forward has typically been the least of the owners' worries.

Sadly, an inability to fully recover from persistent injuries has meant that the peak of Paul Mullin's talismanic talents may never truly return to the Racehorse Ground, or at least not during this all-important campaign.

Wrexham have, however, benefited from their strength in depth, with ten individual players scoring at least twice in the league this campaign. But while this wide array of goalscoring avenues has been helpful thus far, it is easy to identify that Birmingham and Wycombe's possession of a consistent goalscorer is the main factor setting them apart at present.

The likes of Jay Stansfield and Richard Kone sit second and third in the scoring charts, while no Wrexham player currently enters the top 20. If the club could bring in a focal point capable of somewhat replicating Mullin's previous forward-facing dominance, this could well be the margin that dictates the automatic promotion race.
