Gabriel Heinze has agreed to become part of Mikel Arteta’s coaching setup at Arsenal to reinforce the Gunners’ behind-the-scenes team before the 2025/26 season kicks off.
As reported by The Athletic's David Ornstein, the Argentine will fill the vacancy left by Carlos Cuesta, who recently exited to assume a new position at Parma.
Heinze’s recruitment is viewed as a calculated move by Arteta, who continues to reshape Arsenal’s coaching framework following another strong showing in the Premier League.
Arteta had previously attempted to bring Heinze to North London in 2024, showing the high regard in which he holds the former Argentina international and his belief in Heinze’s ability to add value to the Gunners’ coaching philosophy.
Now 47, Heinze will arrive with substantial experience as both a former player and a manager. His playing days included spells at top European sides like Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Marseille.
He also earned over 70 caps for Argentina and featured in two FIFA World Cup tournaments.
Following retirement, Heinze turned to management and has taken charge of several clubs in Argentina, notably Argentinos Juniors and Velez Sarsfield. He earned recognition for his commitment to nurturing young players and promoting an intense, energetic playing approach - an ethos that closely aligns with the style Arteta has fostered at the Emirates.
