Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has issued an update on the recovery process of Oscar Bobb following an injury sustained last August.
The Norway international forward was in line for a major role in the Manchester City first-team squad this season, building upon an impressive last campaign and a starring role in the pre-season tour of the United States.
Having provided a vital assist in the FA Community Shield win over Manchester United ahead of the season, there was a feeling that Bobb would carry on and claim a starting role in the Premier League opener against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
However, disaster would strike during a training session at the City Football Academy as the 21-year-old sustained a leg bone fracture which would require surgery and rule him out for up to six months.
Amid Manchester City’s 12-game run that has featured nine defeats, many are desperately wondering when the winger could make his return to strengthen the attacking threat of the Premier League champions.
Speaking during a recent press conference, Pep Guardiola was asked for an update on when City can expect to welcome Oscar Bobb back into their first-team set-up following a long lay-off through injury.
“I don’t know with Oscar. Still he didn’t train with the team once, so we will see,” Pep Guardiola admitted. “I think it’s a question of the bone and when it’s fixed, not in pain, he will be ready.”
The Manchester City manager continued, “And I think for his physicality with some weeks of training, he will get a little bit his rhythm. Not like we saw in pre-season, but quite similar.”
Manchester City find themselves 12 points adrift of Liverpool in the Premier League table, with Arne Slot’s side having a game in hand on their opponents around them and the reigning champions lying in seventh position.
The New Year brings about some more crucial ties for Bobb to get involved in, and even more so if Manchester City are to secure themselves a play-off tie for a place in the UEFA Champions League last-16 stage.
