FLW's Sheffield Wednesday fan pundit has given his verdict on Djeidi Gassama's impending move to Rangers

Djeidi Gassama is closing in on a move to Rangers from Sheffield Wednesday in a deal worth £2.5 million.
According to The Star, it is expected that the winger will make the switch to Russell Martin’s side this summer.
This is the latest setback at Hillsborough amid uncertainty over the financial situation for the Championship club.
Gassama featured 43 times in the league last season, scoring seven times, with Danny Rohl’s side finishing 12th in the table.
When asked about Gassama’s impending move, FLW’s Sheffield Wednesday fan pundit Patrick McKenna claimed that this is a massive missed opportunity for the club given the player’s potential value.
He is also doubtful that a sell-on clause will be negotiated into the deal, criticising the owner Dejphon Chansiri for being an incompetent negotiator, suggesting it’s only a small silver lining that the winger is not moving to a Championship rival.
“That certainly is way below what I would’ve been hoping we would sell him for when that time came,” McKenna told Football League World.
“As I’ve mentioned before, I believe he is a £10m player.
“If you were to look at the potential he has shown last season and the prices in today’s market, there was a real opportunity for him to finally be a player we sold for a substantial amount of money where we could say we brought a player in, improve him and sold him for profit.
“Because that is one of the many revenue streams we have missed out on under Chansiri.
“So, supposing he’s not going to a Championship rival, that’s a very small comfort in the scale of things.
“Because, we’re in a situation where we have sold him nearly to keep the lights on, the club is dying under Chansiri.
“We are completely unable to have any kind of cashflow, so the circumstances in which Gassama has been sold is a bit grating.
“He should’ve been sold in more positive circumstances, as a success story,
“But instead this is just a disastrous way for him to go.
“As for a sell-on clause, you would expect a competent owner to put this into negotiations, but since he is so desperate for immediate funds, and because he is an incompetent negotiator I don’t hold out much hope for a sell-on clause being put into this transfer.”
Sheffield Wednesday will begin the new season with a trip to face Leicester City on 10 August.
Sheffield Wednesday’s issues off the pitch are now massively impacting the first team squad’s potential, and this will be so frustrating for supporters.
Rohl was guiding the Owls on an upwards trajectory, and there was real momentum behind the club with him at the helm.
But now everything looks to be going backwards very quickly, and it could be a very difficult campaign ahead.
Losing someone of Gassama’s quality could be just the beginning of the summer exits, and it’s unclear just how useful the £2.5 million will be to helping their long-term financial situation.
