Ex-Derby County star Shaun Barker believes that Rams new boy Kenzo Goudmijn is looking very sharp and pointed out that the player has started to move the ball quicker than before.

Derby signed the 22-year-old central midfielder from Dutch side AZ Alkmaar in the summer to introduce creativity into their midfield.

Goudmijn has started all five games for Derby and has managed to find the back of the net in his last two games.

Barker stated that Goudmijn showed a different side of his game in the recent matches and believes that the Dutchman needed a bit of time to get himself up to speed with Championship football.

He pointed out that Goudmijn now looks sharper, is moving the ball quicker than before and added that the player is reflecting his creative side of the game with his out-of-possession work during the matches.

“With Goudmijn, we are seeing a different player than I thought we saw in the first couple of games”, Barker told Rams TV.

“He dillied a little bit in the first couple of games and expected a little bit more time than we are used to.

“We are seeing him now move the ball a little bit quicker.

“We are seeing him still find those wonderful passes and he always looked like the creative in the final third, but he is also doing that little bit out of possession as well.

“So it takes a little bit of time to come up to speed and two in two for him and he is looking like a real snip in terms of the quality that he can bring to this side.”

Goudmijn has become a key part of Paul Warne’s midfield and the Derby boss will expect the player to keep on continuing his form throughout that season.
