Spurs look to end their long trophy drought weeks after their former star did
Harry Kane has issued his verdict on the Europa League final as former club Tottenham take on Manchester United looking to end a long trophy drought.
Spurs' all-time top goalscorer this season ended his own long wait for silverware by winning the Bundesliga title with Bayern Munich, and he will be watching his former team-mates’ own date with destiny on Wednesday.
United are narrow favourites to lift the trophy in Bilbao, and Kane agrees that the club have the experience to get over the line but feels Spurs have proven they can beat any team on their day - and hopes they do.
"It’s been a tough season obviously for Tottenham in the league," Kane told Sky Sports. "But they have a chance to make it one of the best seasons in recent history.
“Obviously wishing them all the best - I still have a lot of friends there, in the players and the staff. I know how much it will mean to them, how much it will mean to the fans.
"It’s going to be tough, every final is. United have experience in the bigger games, maybe, but Tottenham have shown they can compete at any level, and they deserve to be in the final.
“I’ll be watching it away. I’ll be away with my wife somewhere relaxing and I’ll be keeping an eye on it for sure, so I wish them all the best."
