In a short time at the club, Hansi Flick has managed to turn things around spectacularly for FC Barcelona after a disappointing campaign last time out.

With more or less the same squad, the German tactician has the team firing on all cylinders, with several players performing at their best levels after failing to shine last season.

One such star who is back showcasing his world-class quality after an injury-riddled last campaign in Pedri.

The 21-year-old has been in fine nick since the new season got underway, with his fitness levels and performances on the pitch hitting the next level under the tutelage of Flick.

Flick wanted Pedri at Bayern Munich

Now, it has emerged that Flick has been an admirer of Pedri’s abilities for a long time now and wanted to work with him in the past as well.

Indeed, according to SPORT, the German tactician wanted to sign the Barcelona midfield maestro when he was still in charge at Bayern Munich.

Flick was in charge of the Bavarian giants for close to two years, having taken over in November 2019 before stepping down at the end of the 2020/21 season.

During that tenure, he caused Barcelona plenty of misery, condemning the Blaugrana to one of their most humiliating losses – the 2-8 defeat in the UEFA Champions League under Quique Setien.

And, as per the report, it was during that time that Flick wanted to raid Barça for the signing of Pedri, whom the Catalans signed in 2019 before loaning him back to Las Palmas for one season before he made his breakthrough at the club under Ronald Koeman.

Flick might have been unable to work with Pedri at Bayern Munich but having been united with the Spanish midfield prodigy at Barcelona now, the 59-year-old is working wonders with him.
