Frenkie de Jong’s future at Barcelona is up in the air as he enters the final year of his contract after this season. If no extension is reached this summer, the 26-year-old could be heading for a move.
A report from SPORT in October revealed that top clubs, including Manchester United, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, and Paris Saint-Germain, are closely monitoring De Jong’s situation.
Although De Jong has made it clear that he wants to stay at Barcelona, PSG’s track record of signing players from the Catalan club makes them a realistic destination.
Barcelona seems prepared to part ways with the Dutch midfielder as his contract nears its end. Mundo Deportivo reported that the club has no plans to prioritize an extension due to their inability to meet his salary demands.
On Wednesday, CaughtOffside reported that Liverpool have started talking internally about their top transfer targets for the summer, with De Jong being one of them. However, his wages could pose a challenge.
Barcelona are open to selling him for around €35 million, but his hefty salary at the Nou Camp has previously stopped Liverpool and other clubs from making a move.

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has made it clear that Frenkie de Jong will remain an important part of his plans, according to SPORT.
De Jong’s contract with Barcelona runs until 2026, but the club has been trying to renegotiate his terms and extend his deal for the past year. After receiving no response from the midfielder’s camp, Barcelona reportedly decided to put the 27-year-old up for sale.
However, Flick disagrees with this approach and is gradually reintegrating the talented playmaker into the team following a series of injuries. Flick’s backing, along with a return to the starting lineup, could be key in convincing De Jong to stay.
