Hansi Flick plays key role as another Barcelona star agrees contract extension | OneFootball

A member of the defensive ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona has agreed on the terms of a contract extension with the club.

That’s according to Diario Sport, who point towards Eric García as the player in question.

Defender Eric for his part of course played a surprisingly prominent role in Catalunya’s capital over the latter weeks of last season.

After Jules Koundé was condemned to a spell on the sidelines with a hamstring injury, the versatile Eric was tasked with filling in at right-back in Barcelona’s squad.

And the former Manchester City man went on to do a thoroughly impressive job of as much.

So much so that something of a U-turn was forthcoming regarding his future. After previously being expected to move on this summer, talks were recently opened with Eric’s entourage over the terms of a contract renewal.

And as alluded to above, early this week, such discussions have culminated in a positive outcome.

As per a report from Sport:

‘The renewal of the centre-back from Martorell until 2030 is closed and pending only officialisation. A decision that, by the way, could not happen without the figure of Hansi Flick.’
