Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has made his first major pre-season decision, selecting Pedro Fernandez Sarmiento (known as ‘Dro’) and Jofre Torrents to join the senior squad for the upcoming tour of Japan.

According to SPORT, both players have been officially informed they will travel with the team on Thursday to face Vissel Kobe in Barcelona’s first friendly match of the summer.

Since the start of pre-season, as many as nine players from Barça Atletic have been training with the first team, hoping to earn a place in Flick’s plans.

With the senior squad already packed with top-level talent, competition has been fierce, which is why the German coach had made it clear from day one that only a select few would get the opportunity to travel.

Over the past week, the youngsters have undergone 10 intense training sessions, including several double workouts.

Flick and his coaching staff closely monitored the players’ fitness, performance in drills, and match simulations to decide who deserved a spot in the travelling squad.

According to the outlet, after evaluating the group, Hansi Flick personally informed Dro and Jofre Torrents on Sunday that they had been selected.

While this does not rule out the possibility of more young players joining later in the tour, these are the first two academy players to be chosen for the trip to Japan.

Dro, who alternated between Juvenil B and Juvenil A last season, has caught Flick’s attention despite playing in a position with plenty of competition.

Meanwhile, Jofre Torrents, a promising left-back, is considered one of La Masia’s brightest hopes for the future.

Barcelona are keeping a close eye on his development, and this trip will give him a chance to gain valuable experience with the first team.
