Hamburg bosses back Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer after failed Nice transfer | OneFootball

Following last-minute collapse of the transfer that would have seen Hamburg’s Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer move to Nice, Hamburg board-member-for-sport Stefan Kuntz and club sporting director Claus Costa have issued statements backing their striker. Both expressed confidence that the 23-year-old could still play a role for the newly promoted Bundesliga club.

This despite the fact that Königsdörffer still hasn’t made a German top flight appearance and has been plagued by knee problems throughout his career. The Ligue 1 outfit opted to nix Königdörffer’s move after two failed medicals.

“We are sorry for Ransi as we would have liked to see him get the chance to play international football,” Costa as quoted by Kicker – said. “From a personal and sporting point of view, we are very happy that he will continue to be available to us.”

“We welcome him with open arms and know what we have in him,” Kuntz added.

Kicker notes that the Hanseatic city-state club still plan to head into the coming season with Königsdörffer as their first-choice striker. The German-Ghanaian scored 14 2. Bundesliga goals last season. Hamburg opted to allow their leading goal-scorer from last season (Davie Selke, 22 tallies) to depart and brought in Yussuf Poulsen to replace him.

Poulsen (at the age of 31) nevertheless appears slated for a substitute role. Former Cardiff City striker Robert Glatzel has always thrived at the German second division level (94 goals in 189 2. Bundesliga appearances), but still only has 14 Bundesliga appearances (with Mainz in the spring of 2021) to his credit.
