Habib Beye confirmed during today’s press conference that his contract as Stade Rennais head coach has automatically extended for another season after it was confirmed that the club had avoided relegation.
The former Red Star manager was appointed near the end of January on a one-year contract with the club sat in the relegation playoff spot following a poor season under Julien Stéphan and his replacement Jorge Sampaoli.
Beye has managed to turn performances around, registering seven wins and five defeats in the league, which is good enough for the club to now sit 11th in the table ahead of their meeting with Toulouse FC tomorrow evening at the Stadium de Toulouse.
Beye said, “The clause is clear, you know it, if the club [ends the season] in Ligue 1, I have an automatic one-year contract, [so] it’s official.” This clause had never officially been confirmed by the club or head coach. However, there had been reports that the club were happy with Beye’s tenure and had begun planning the summer transfer window with him as the head coach.
