Greater Manchester Police has urged any Manchester United and Man City fans travelling to the FA Cup final from Manchester on Saturday to plan their route – both to and from London.

As was the case for last year’s final at Wembley, supporter coaches and travelling fans have been asked to take different routes down south.

It will be a long enough journey without the hassle of everything taking the same route to Wembley.

Police are advising United coaches to take the western route down the M6, with City fans taking the M1.

Each club will be asked to use designated service stations. This presents an opportunity for the club to do something special ahead of the final, but knowing there have been cutbacks we can probably forget about that.

A police statement was read out by superintendent Colette Rose (via BBC Sport): “This final promises to be a great day for our city and we want to ensure everyone enjoys the day, whether that is in Manchester or in London.

“Supporters at last year’s final were a credit to both teams – please remember that you are representing Manchester again and that the match is not an excuse for anti-social or criminal behaviour.”
