FC Barcelona fans might be forgiven for forgetting that Oriol Romeu is still at the club. The Spanish veteran was even left out of the pre-season tour squad by Hansi Flick.
Even as Romeu still works to sort out his future, it is not like he is short of options. As per Mundo Deportivo, Girona and Michel are prepared to welcome him back for a third stint at the club.

However, Girona have laid down two conditions to re-sign Romeu this summer. Firstly, they want him to terminate his contract with Barcelona, and secondly, they want him to lower his wages significantly.
Barcelona signed Romeu from Girona a couple of seasons ago. They then loaned him back to the La Liga club last season, and he could now join them again for the 2025/26 season.
Romeu is a perfect example of an emergency signing by Barcelona that didn’t work out. The 33-year-old was brought in following Sergio Busquets’ departure, but was quickly found lacking.
Romeu, if he does agree to Girona’s conditions, can still be of use to Michel’s team. It is a place he is familiar with and wouldn’t need much time to adapt.
Ultimately, this signing didn’t work out for the Catalan club. It remains to be seen whether Barcelona will make a clean break and allow the veteran to leave this summer.
