Gilardino: ‘Excellent Genoa performance vs. Milan, ambitious Blazquez ‘ | OneFootball

Genoa coach Alberto Gilardino is delighted by the Grifone’s performance against Milan and says the club CEO  Andrés Blazquez is ‘ambitious’ so he decided to extend his contract.

Alberto Gilardino commented on Genoa’s performance against Milan in an interview with DAZN on Sunday and explained why he decided to extend his contract at Marassi.

“I am extremely satisfied. The lads put in an excellent performance,” the former striker said.

“This team has a big heart and desire to amaze. We must continue on this path because this is our DNA. We need these feelings to put in these performances against teams like Milan. We have been improving from game to game.”

Mateo Retegui scored the opening goal in a 3-3 draw at San Siro.

“He has important room for improvement and he wants to improve,” noted Gila.

“Today’s performance was important It’s the team’s merit, but he was ready too. I asked him and Ekuban to keep the ball high and play between the lines and they did it well.”

Why did he sign a new deal.

“Because of the desire to grow and challenge myself at a club that has given me the chance to coach,” he replied.

“Thanks to the team and my staff for the many good things we did this season. It will be difficult and challenging at the same time.

“It’s always hard to think about the future. We must be ambitious and realistic. We did something important this season and it won’t be easy to repeat ourselves. There must be the desire to keep some players and add others to earn survival first of all and then, perhaps, think about something different. Blazquez is very ambitious, but we have to keep our feet on the ground. This is a city with great enthusiasm. I think not many people hoped for such a good season. The priority will be to confirm the good things we’ve done this season.”
