The goalkeeper’s time in France looks set to be coming to an end
Gianluigi Donnarumma says he is “disappointed and disheartened” after being told he is no longer part of Luis Enrique’s plans at Paris Saint-Germain.
Donnarumma, who has been left out of the PSG squad for the UEFA Super Cup showdown against Tottenham, looks set to depart the Parc des Princes this summer after Lucas Chevalier was signed from Lille to replace him.
Enrique has since cited that he is looking for a different profile of goalkeeper, hence the decision to omit the Italy international.
Taking to Instagram, Donnarumma penned a message to the PSG fans in an attempt to explain the situation: “To the special Paris fans, from the first day I arrived, I gave everything – on and off the pitch – to earn my place and defend the goal of Paris Saint-Germain.
“Unfortunately, someone has decided that I can no longer be part of the group and contribute to the team’s success. I am disappointed and disheartened.
“I hope to have the opportunity to look the fans at the Parc des Princes in the eyes one more time and say goodbye as it should be done.
“If that doesn’t happen, I want you to know that your support and affection mean the world to me, and I will never forget it. I will always carry with me the memory of all the emotions, the magical nights, and of you, who made me feel at home.
“To my teammates – my second family – thank you for every battle, every laugh, every moment we shared. You will always be my brothers. Playing for this club and living in this city has been an immense honour.
“Thank you, Paris.”

It remains to be seen if Donnarumma moves on before the transfer window closes. As it is a World Cup season, he will need to be playing regularly to make the Italy squad should they qualify for the tournament next summer.
The 26-year-old has been linked with a move to the Premier League as both Manchester United and Man City are said to have shown interest.
According to reports, City have already made contact with PSG to explore the conditions of a potential deal as they could be on the market for a replacement with Ederson attracting interest from Galatasaray.
