Derby County are among a few Championship sides who are looking to sign French forward Timothe Nkada.
The 26-year-old has headed into this summer off the back of a 17-goal and five-assist campaign that has caught the eyes of some clubs on our side of the English Channel.
Derby, along with Blackburn and Queens Park Rangers, are reportedly keen on the Ligue 2 attacker, as per The Sun (23/07/25 - 12:11).
Rodez AF want around £2.2 million for their premier goalscorer, who co-led the French second division in scoring last term.
Derby will have some work to do to convince him to come to Pride Park as he has a pre-existing relationship with QPR boss Julien Stephan.
If they can beat their league rivals to Nkada, Football League World's Rams fan pundit, Shaun Woodward, believes it'd be a strong addition, given the fitness of John Eustace's current options up top.
"Yeah, it could be an exciting signing," said Woodward. "It's come out of the blue, really. I don't think anyone would have predicted this one.
"He looked like he had a great season last season, scoring a goal every other game, or better than that. Yes, his team struggled near the bottom of the league, but he clearly had a standout season.
"He's at a good age as well. So if he's fit, I'd get him in because that's one thing we're lacking at the moment is a fit striker. Yes, we've signed [Patrick] Agyemang, [Carlton] Morris and [Andi] Weimann, but they haven't featured at all in pre-season.
"So it's going to be a while before we get them up and running and ready to hit the Championship, which is three games a week at times and it's brutal. So it's going to be a while before they're already fit and firing.
"We could really do with someone because we cannot go into the season with just Kemar Roofe because even he's still potentially not our player, so I don't really know what's going on with him.
"But if you're going into the season with just Kemar Roofe, then you're in trouble. As much as we signed some strikers, we need someone that can come in and hit the ground running right now, and he [Nkada] looks like he could be that person.
"[He's a] great age, scoring a lot of goals. Get him in and let's see what happens."
It was clear heading into the offseason what Derby's biggest weakness was. The loss of loanee Jerry Yates, the only player to reach double-digit goals for the Rams in the Championship last season, left them with very limited options up front.
The signings of Agyemang and Morris in particular, one with high potential and one that's a more reliable option at the level, have given them a good base to work off, once they get up to full speed.
Links with Nkada show further intent to add depth to their attacking reserves; a summer tactic that cannot be bashed that much.
