Germany are into the last eight at Euro 2024 after a far from comfortable 2-0 victory over Denmark in the last 16. Spain or Georgia await the hosts in the quarter-finals as the hosts chase their first piece of major silverware since their 2014 World Cup triumph in Brazil.

Die Mannschaft have struggled in recent competitions, only making it as far as the Round of 16 at Euro 2020 and being knocked out at the group stage of World Cup 2022. Will Julian Nagelsmann’s side bounce back on home turf?

Group A – Matchweek One

Germany turned in a fine performance in their opening match to provide a memorable night for their supporters in the tournament’s opener against Scotland. The Tartan Army were swatted aside by die Mannschaft’s rampant attack and could only offer a freak own goal from Antonio Rudiger in reply as Julian Nagelsmann’s side racked up the goals in a 5-1 win.

Group A – Matchweek Two

Another comfortable, confident performance came from this German side on Matchday Two. Jamal Musiala became the first man to hit a second goal of the tournament as he gave his team the lead before Ilkay Gundogan swept home a second in the 67th minute to secure the three points against a hapless Hungary.

Group A – Matchweek Three

Switzerland have presented Germany with a problem over recent years. El Nati have now gone four games unbeaten against die Mannschaft and they almost won this game, with the hosts needing an injury-time equaliser from Niclas Fullkrug to secure a point and top spot in the group.

Round of 16

Denmark have now failed to win any of their last eight major tournament games after drawing their way through Group C as runners up. However, this was not the straightforward Germany victory that many predicted and Denmark can feel aggrieved that they are packing their bags. Moments after Joachim Andersen saw his second-half strike chalked off, the Crystal Palace man was adjudged to have handled in his own box after a pitchside VAR review. Kai Havertz converted from 12 yards to send the Dortmund crowd wild before Jamal Musiala sealed the victory with a cool finish. No player has scored more goals (3) than Musiala at Euro 2024.
