Dario Sits, a 20-year-old forward from the Dutch second division club Helmond Sport, was initially listed alongside stars like Arsenal’s Kai Havertz and Real Madrid’s Antonio Rudiger on the official squad announcement for Germany’s Nations League fixtures.
Sits, 20, is currently on loan at Helmond from Serie A’s Parma and made his debut for Latvia last month.
Sits played against Germany’s Under-21s in 2022, but has never represented Germany at any level.
His name was removed from the squad list shortly after the mistake was noticed, and the German football federation blamed “a technical error in the database” in an email statement to the Associated Press.
Germany are set to face Bosnia-Herzegovina and Hungary in their upcoming Nations League matches next week.
Having already secured a spot in the quarter-finals, Germany remains keen to strengthen their group-winning position. The squad named contains few surprises, although the inclusion of Stefan Ortega from Manchester City could see the goalkeeper earn his first cap for Germany.
Havertz suffered a head injury during Arsenal’s Champions League defeat to Inter Milan, where a clash with Inter defender Yann Aurel Bisseck left him with a severe cut, requiring stitches.
Despite the severity of the injury, Mikel Arteta remains optimistic about his availability for the game against Chelsea this weekend.
