Manchester United defender Millie Turner says that club teammate Gabby George’s return to international football with England is a great achievement.

The 27-year-old made her first England appearance for six years as the Lionesses defeated Switzerland 1-0 in Sheffield last night.

Four Manchester United players started the match for England; those being George, Turner, Maya Le Tissier and Grace Clinton. All four players put in solid performances with Le Tissier being particularly impressive down the right and Clinton netting the winning goal.

When speaking to WSL Full-Time after the match, defender Turner expressed her delight at the Manchester United representation in the England team whilst paying tribute to club teammate George for sealing her international return.

“I’m very pleased,” Turner said. “I’m very happy that we can all represent [Manchester] United and all be representing our country.

“I think everyone [from Manchester United] did really well tonight. I have to give a special shout out for Gabby [George] who hasn’t played for England for six years. For her to come back in after both of those ACL injuries is just a great achievement.”

Reflecting on the victory, Turner was pleased with what England produced in the first half and says that the clean sheet was a real positive.

She said “I think in the first half, we were really positive, really consistent. Second half, we just let it drop a little bit but we showed a lot of positivity getting the clean sheet. That’s what we pride ourselves on and hopefully, going forward, we can continue that.”

Turner has had to wait for her opportunities with England but she now has a real chance of representing the nation at UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 next summer. Looking towards 2025, the defender says that her focus has to be on performing well at club.

She said “I’ve just got to keep doing what I’m doing at club, keep trying to be as consistent as possible. Hopefully, Sarina [Wiegman] will keep an eye out and will see what I can do.”

England are back in action in February 2025 when they begin their latest UEFA Women’s Nations League campaign with fixtures against Portugal and Spain.
