AC Milan have not had the best recent period, and yet what filters out is confidence from the management down to the players.
A report from La Gazzetta dello Sport this morning described Milan as having their ‘backs against the wall’ ahead of tonight’s game against Bologna. It is a fair comment too, given that the top four train is about to leave the station without them, unless wins come thick and fast.
Despite the elimination in the Champions League at the hands of Feyenoord and the damaging defeat against Torino, the paper claims that the Milan leaders reiterated to Conceiçao their confidence in him, at least in the present.
Confidence is ‘also the key word’ for the coach too, towards his squad of players. Sergio wanted to confirm his esteem in ‘private conversations’ with some of those who are not performing to their usual levels, which could be Theo Hernandez and Rafael Leao.
Above all, though, it applies to Mike Maignan. The Frenchman will be between the posts at the Stefano Renato Dall’Ara tonight, ready and hoping to make up for the many mistakes that he has made in the last few weeks, which have prompted rumours about his future.
