AC Milan head coach Sergio Conceicao will make a change to the centre-back pairing for tonight’s game against Juventus, a report has claimed.
As La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) writes, Conceicao will take charge of his first game as Milan boss tonight and all eyes are on the team that he will name. The main headline is that he seems ready to relaunch Tomori from minute one, temporarily extinguishing the rumours of his possible exit.
Tomori spent a lot of time under the bench towards the end of Paulo Fonseca’s tensure, effectively losing the starting spot that in recent seasons had practically always been his, ever since the Scudetto season of 2021-22.
The situation was such that the English centre-back ended up at the centre of transfer rumours, with Juventus in pole position to snatch him from Milan as per multiple sources. With the arrival of Conceicao, however, things have changed.
Tomori has staying at Milan as a priority and wants to play for a spit under the new coach who, for his part, wants to put him to the test tonight and at the same time send a subliminal message. The Portuguese coach, in other words, believes in Tomori.
The one to pay the price, at least this time, will be Matteo Gabbia. Yesterday in the final training session, Malick Thiaw was tested together with Tomori which is an indication about who should get the nod tonight.
Meanwhile, another player should return to the XI: Ismael Bennacer. The Algerian midfielder was back on the pitch against Roma after a long period out due to surgery on a muscle tear, and tonight he will have to prove to the new manager he should start more regularly.
What appears the most likely scenario is a three-man midfield with Bennacer having Youssouf Fofana and Tijjani Reijnders next to him.
