AC Milan striker Alvaro Morata being forced to move house due to a gaffe by the mayor of Corbetta is the most curious story of Thursday morning.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport write, Morata chose to buy a house in Corbetta, a town in the Milanese outskirts near Magenta, not far from San Siro and on the road to the highway to reach Milanello.

It is an unusual choice for a Milan or Inter player, because generally Rossoneri players choose the city centre, the San Siro area or a spot near Milanello. A photo taken with a fan in a bar in Corbetta had raised suspicions, but no one had spoken about it since.

That was until a post by the mayor on Wednesday at lunchtime. Marco Ballarini announced the news in an Instagram post, not realising the problems that this would cause for the Spaniard.

“The champion is our new fellow citizen. Here We Go! The Milan striker is finalising the paperwork for the transfer to his new (wonderful) home in our city. I am a huge Inter fan, but I am happy to welcome Alvaro Morata to our great Corbetta family!”

Morata responded as follows, also on Instagram: “Dear Mr. Mayor, thank you for violating my privacy. Fortunately, I do not own any valuable assets, the only treasure are my children whose safety you have disturbed.

“I thought that the municipality of Corbetta could guarantee me a certain privacy, instead I find myself having to move house immediately thanks to your inability to use social media and protect its citizens.”
