The European Championship lacked a single Italian AC Milan representative, and at present, this trend will probably continue. In the future, though, the Italian National Team could have a very Milanese feel.

When Luciano Spalletti named his Italian squad for the European Championship, some were shocked by the lack of any Milan representation. However, it is a struggle to argue for anyone’s place within the squad.

As Gazzetta dello Sport writes, though, this may not be the case for much longer.

For the first time since 1938, Italy were without any Rossoneri. This trend may continue for now, but looking ahead, several players should represent the Azzurri.

Already, the Diavolo can boast several members of the Azzurrini. Whilst there are no representations in the Under-21 side, the same cannot be said about the Under-20s. Lorenzo Torriani, Davide Bartesaghi, and Kevin Zeroli have all embedded themselves within the squad.

A step below, Adam Bakoune, Vittorio Magni, Mattia Liberali, Emanuele Sala, and Diego Sia represent the Under-19 side, and there are another six representatives in the Under-18s and Under-17s setups as well.

Then, we have the star boy. Currently, he is playing for the Under-19s, but he has been drifting between the squads this summer to compete in the international tournaments. It is important to remember here that the starlet is only 16, he is playing two age groups up, and he is, undoubtedly, seen as Italy’s next big thing.

For a Nation who have experienced a striker drought in the past few years, there finally seems to be a shining light, and there is a desire to keep the pressure off of him. His time will come, it is predestined. Looking at the bigger picture, Milan’s time will come once again, with the talent among their ranks, their significance to the Azzurri will quickly show again.
