Sergio Conceicao wants to bring AC Milan back to the top and has already started building ‘a new Milan’. Everything starts with a certain duo, as highlighted by Gazzetta dello Sport.
As the pink newspaper puts it (see photo below), the new Milan starts with the veterans, Theo Hernandez and Rafael Leao. They have been at the club the longest if you exclude Davide Calabria and Matteo Gabbia, becoming very attached to the club.
The duo, like Bennacer, have been at Milan since the summer of 2019 and together they have 468 appearances: 233 for Rafa, two more for Theo. However, even though they have been at the club for quite some time, it feels like a new push is coming on the left-hand side.
After the brilliance in the Supercoppa Italiana, the pursuit continues tonight as Milan will take on Cagliari. Leao’s last game in front of the home crowd was on December 15 against Genoa. 90 minutes as the captain with a lack of creativity. Few emotions and many more whistles at the end of the match.
Hernandez, meanwhile, was a starter against Roma on December 29. He also wore the armband and much like the Genoa game, it was a very poor game. Now, however, Milan are back to winning ways and there is a completely different buzz around the team.
So, on the left-hand side, Milan are ready to turn their season around. With Theo and Rafa at their best, the team can travel at maximum speed. Coincidentally, tonight’s opponent is Cagliari and in the reverse fixture, Theo was outclassed by Zappa and guilty on all three goals.
Rafa had scored two, one on a great assist from Reijnders and the other on a fantastic pass from Fofana, and was subbed off before the Rossoblu completed the comeback. Okafor, now headed to Leipzig, came in to replace him. It’s truly a completely different Milan.
