Davide Calabria and Alvaro Morata’s exits have already been confirmed, even if the official announcements haven’t arrived yet, and Fikayo Tomori also could have been on his way out. However, Zlatan Ibrahimovic failed on this front.
According to today’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (see photo below), amid advanced negotiations with Bologna, Galatasaray and Tottenham respectively, Ibrahimovic had a talk with Calabria, Morata and Tomori at Milanello yesterday.
The RedBird advisor used ‘Ibra tones’, as per the newspaper, to get the trio to accept the transfers. Calabria and Morata evidently got the message as they left Milanello shortly after, but Tomori resisted and made it clear that he wanted to stay.
Indeed, the centre-back’s move to Tottenham is now off the table and he’s fully focused on the derby, expected to play from the first minute. Whether Ibrahimovic sees this as a failure remains to be seen, but what’s clear is that Milan and Spurs had an agreement worth over €25m for the transfer.
Seeing as Malick Thiaw and Matteo Gabbia aren’t in top condition, it actually would have been a rather complicated situation without Tomori available for the game. Finding a replacement also wouldn’t have been easy, with the window closing tomorrow.
