In the past 12 months, AC Milan’s discipline has been an infrequent discussion, but a discussion nonetheless, and today, it has risen again, and there are questions arising about the Rossoneri’s ‘paradox’ with yellow cards.

There have been questions about mentalities, unity, and the head coach already this season, but an old question is arising this season whilst the international break continues – why are Milan getting as many cards?

As Gazzetta dello Sport (via Milan Press) highlights, the Rossoneri have recorded the second-fewest amount of fouls so far this season, yet they have received the most amount of cards, which presents several questions in areas.

There have already been 15 cards shown to Diavolo players – of those, two have been red cards shown to Theo Hernandez and Davide Bartesaghi – but they have only committed more fouls than one team – Torino.

In Florence, there were 21 fouls, but only one yellow card was given to Milan for an actual foul committed by Alvaro Morata. However, Tijjani Reijnders, Theo Hernandez and Fikayo Tomori’s cards came as a result of protesting.

This points in a mentality direction, as opposed to something more sinister. However, with all three players reportedly seen by Paulo Fonseca as leaders, collecting yellow cards this frequently suggests a lack of maturity, perhaps.
