Roma manager Gian Piero Gasperini was interviewed following the Giallorossi’s 0-1 win over Kaiserslautern in today’s preseason friendly match in Germany.
“Am I satisfied? Yes,” said the Italian technician. “It’s clearly a preparation match, but we played well on the pitch. The team already has its own identity, but everything can be improved, including our condition.”
“We undoubtedly did some good things. A lot of players came on towards the end, and it’s clear that in the second half, when the whole team changes, it becomes a different kind of match. But these guys did give us some indications.”
“We can’t ask for intensity now; we’re only two weeks into training with the load. This was our first real match, and we played in a difficult environment. There were a lot of people, and the fans were very enthusiastic.”
“We can’t ask for much in that regard, but we must always have the ambition to make few mistakes when we’re close to the penalty area. Stopping the ball, the final pass, and the shot are crucial, and these things change matches. When we’re there, we need to be more precise, but we’re on the right track.”
“Today we didn’t intend to press the opposing goalkeeper. They played with the goalkeeper a lot, we only occasionally because it’s expensive. Ferguson is a pressing striker and can create these situations. If you win the ball so high up, it’s clear you have a chance to score.”
