Garnacho scores stunner as United breeze past Everton

Scorers: Garnacho 3′, Rashford (PEN) 55′, Martial 75′.

Alejandro Garnacho scored one of the goals of the season as Manchester United eased past Everton to move into the top six.

The players came out to a hostile atmosphere at Goodison Park as the home crowd protested the Premier League’s decision to dock Everton 10 points for breaking Financial Fair Play rules.

But the raucous home crowd were silenced inside three minute when Diogo Dalot broke into the box and crossed to the far post for Garnacho to deliver a brilliant bicycle kick into the top corner.

Sean Dyche’s side did grow into the game and were unlucky not to go into the break level with André Onana denying Dominic Calvert-Lewin before Kobbie Mainoo got back to clear Dwight McNeil’s chip off the line.

Abdoulaye Doucouré then spurned a golden chance to equalise as he flashed a shot wide from 12 yards out despite being unmarked in the middle.

United took the game away from the Toffees 10 minutes into the second half when referee John Brooks awarded them a penalty after Ashley Young brought Anthony Martial down in the box.

Marcus Rashford stepped up to slam home from the spot following a lengthy VAR review after the referee had initially booked Martial for diving.

The Frenchman got in on the act himself 15 minutes from time, chipping over the on-rushing Jordan Pickford after a swift counter-attack with Bruno Fernandes sliding through with an incisive pass.

Erik ten Hag’s side move into the top six after a fifth win in six games while Everton remain second-bottom five points from safety following the points deduction.

Villa overtake Spurs in the table with comeback away win

Scorers: Lo Celso 23′; Torres 45+7′, Watkins 63′

Aston Villa came from behind to beat Spurs and record their first away win in two months to move into the top four at the expense of Ange Postecoglou’s men.

Both sides had great opportunities to open the scoring in the first five minutes, Dejan Kulusevski hitting the post for Spurs with a left-footed shot, while Pau Torres really should have finished with a free header inside the box.

Despite a number of changes to their side due to injury and suspension, Spurs dominated the ball in the early stages with Villa content to play on the counter.

The home side took the lead in the 23rd minute through Giovani Lo Celso, the Argentine midfielder hammering home past his international teammate Emi Martinez albeit with the aid of a deflection. It was the midfielder’s first Premier League goal for over three years.

Villa thought they had equalised directly after but Ollie Watkins was judged to be offside when he headed home from inside the box. It took nearly three minutes for a VAR decision to come but it appeared to be correct.

Offside would then rule out Son Heung-Min’s strike just before half-time but no VAR was needed here.

Villa equalised out of nowhere in added time of the first 45, Torres making no mistake with his second headed chance of the game. It was a brilliant free kick cross from Douglas Luiz that was just asking to be finished.

The second half started with Villa continuing to look dangerous on the counter and with another goal ruled out for Son, once again the Spurs skipper being offside.

Villa took the lead just after the hour with a brilliant goal from Ollie Watkins. The England striker exchanged the ball with Youri Tielemans before a quality low finish from inside the box.

Son completed a hat-trick of offside goals late in the game, this time after Pedro Porro’s shot cannoned off the post and to him inside the six yard box.

Villa held out for another big away win in London this season, while Spurs will rue several missed chances as well as their mounting injury list.
