Fridolina Rolfo has reacted on social media after officially parting ways with Barcelona, with the club confirming a mutual agreement to terminate her contract a year early.
Fridolina Rolfo announced her Barcelona departure through a heartfelt statement that reflected on her time at the club and the bonds she’s formed on and off the pitch.
In an emotional farewell post, she thanked the club, her teammates, and the fans.
“All good things come to an end, and now it’s my time to leave this special club and take the next step on my journey,” she wrote.
“I’m so grateful for the past few years with FC Barcelona. For everything we’ve achieved, the titles we’ve won, and the moments I’ve shared with teammates, staff, friends, and all of you – the fans.
“Wearing this shirt and representing this crest has been a dream. Now, looking back, I feel nothing but pride and gratitude for every moment I’ve lived here. Barcelona will always be a part of me. This club, this city, and its people will always have a place in my heart.”
The Swedish international leaves the Catalan giants after a hugely successful spell, during which she became a key figure in one of the most dominant teams in women’s football.
Rolfo’s departure comes as she continues to recover from injury. She has been included in Sweden’s squad for Euro 2025 but is yet to feature.
Barcelona in their own statement said: “The club wishes to publicly thank Fridolina for her professionalism, commitment, dedication and her positive and close relationship with all elements of the blaugrana family, and wishes her all the best for the future.”
Neither Rolfo or Barcelona confirmed why they have decided to part ways, but Rolfo said that it was time to ‘take the next step on my journey’.
Fridolina Rolfo arrived at Barcelona in 2021 and quickly proved herself as one of the team’s most versatile players. Whether she was playing at left-back or further up the pitch, she made a big impact and became a key part of Barcelona’s success.
During her time there, she helped the team win just about everything such as Liga F titles, Copa de la Reina trophies, and Champions League titles. Rolfo played a major role in one of the most dominant sides women’s football has seen.
Injuries disrupted the latter part of her time in Spain, but she remains a vital figure for Sweden, recently named in the national team’s squad ahead of Euro 2025, though she has yet to return to action due to her recovery process.
Sweden are hoping for success at Euro 2025 and according to the UK’s top betting websites, they are fifth-favourites to win the tournament at odds of 14/1.
England international goalkeeper Ellie Roebuck has also left Barcelona after a single season with the club.
Like Rolfö, her contract was terminated by mutual agreement. Roebuck arrived in Spain in 2023 after leaving Manchester City, but her time at Barça was limited by fitness challenges and competition for the No. 1 spot, resulting in just two appearances across all competitions.
Despite limited minutes, her experience and pedigree were valued within the squad, and she now looks to reboot her career in the Women’s Super League.
Aston Villa confirmed her signing shortly after her departure was made official, bringing her back to England with hopes of reclaiming regular first-team football. At 25, Roebuck still has her prime years ahead of her, and Villa will hope she can become a key figure in their push up the WSL table.
