Chelsea goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen rejected a loan move to Strasbourg with Mike Penders now closing in a move to the Ligue 1 outfit according to reports.

The Blues signed Jorgensen last summer from La Liga side Villarreal for a fee of around £20.7m, and the 23-year-old played back-up to Robert Sanchez.

Chelsea have had problems between the sticks over the last two seasons, and questions have been asked about Sanchez and whether he’s good enough to be long term number one.

Jorgensen rejected Strasbourg loan

Jorgensen was mainly used in the cup competitions last season, but did displace Sanchez for a handful of games in the Premier League.

The Denmark international made 24 appearances in all competitions for the Blues last season, but just six of those were in the Premier League.

Jorgensen is part of the squad preparing for the Club World Cup final on Sunday, although he’s only made one appearance in America.

Chelsea are believed to have high hopes for Jorgensen, but it’s not clear how good he is, and he once again looks set to be number two next season.

French outlet L’Equipe have reported the Dane was considered for a loan move to Strasbourg, but he reportedly rejected the opportunity.

The report adds negotiations are going well between Chelsea and Strasbourg for Penders, who’s expected to join on a season loan.

Mathis Amougou to join Strasbourg in a permanent deal

Chelsea can only loan three players to Strasbourg, with Kendry Paez, and Penders set to take up two of those spots.

Mathis Amougou had been earmarked to go on loan to the French side, but he’s now set to join on a permanent basis, meaning there’s still one spot open.

Josh Acheampong and Tyrique George could be possible candidates, whilst Ishe Samuels-Smith, who’s in negotiations over a permanent move could potentially join on loan instead.
