Kicker currently confirms a report originating in Portugal’s Record newspaper concerning the imminent transfer of former Heidenheim attacker Jan-Niklas Beste. The 28-year-old heads back to the Bundseliga after a failed move to Benfica Lisbon which saw him make just three league appearances for the Portuguese outfit.
Freiburg, according to all sources, are set to acquire Beste for an €8m transfer fee; precisely the same amount that Benfica paid to bring Beste to the peninsula. Kicker does note that performance based incentives will be added, meaning Benfica will not strictly be cutting their losses. Kicker also outlines a clear timeline on the transaction.
Beste must remain with his current club due to personnel shortages ahead of this evening’s Champions League away fixture at Juventus. Beste may even feature in head coach Bruno Lage’s plans. A return to Portugal on a red-eye back with the team means the winger won’t be able to make it over to Breisgau until Friday or Saturday.
The deal should then be wrapped up.
