France face Spain in the semi-finals of the UEFA Nations League in Stuttgart this evening.
Les Bleus are bidding to win the Nations League for the second time, but face a formidable challenge. The Spanish eliminated France from the semi-finals at Euro 2024 on route to tournament success.
La Roja are also the current holders and unbeaten in 18 games across all competitions. Spain’s last defeat came in March 2024.
However, Didier Deschamps will boast a squad full of confidence. Five of his squad formed part of the Paris Saint-Germain team that won a maiden Champions League with a record-breaking final win over Inter Milan last weekend.
Deschamps has a huge selection headache in the final third with Desire Doue and Rayan Cherki adding to an abundance of options. Doue was named man-of-the-match in last weekend’s Champions League final and will hope to add to his sole cap, while Cherki is eyeing his international debut. The latter led both Ligue 1 and the Europa League for assists on 2024/25.
While France are spoilt for choice in attack, defensively their options are more stretched. Regulars William Saliba, Dayot Upamecano, and Jules Kounde are all ruled out.
Despite being just 26, Kylian Mbappe is the most experienced player in the France squad with 88 caps. He needs just two more goals to become only the third Frenchman to reach 50 international goals, after Olivier Giroud (57) and Thierry Henry (51).
France predicted lineup
France predicted XI: Maignan; Pavard, Konate, L.Hernandez, T.Hernandez; Tchouameni, Kone, Rabiot; Olise, Dembele, Mbappe.
