Fortaleza have reached an agreement to extend Lucas Sasha’s contract until the end of 2026, bringing a close to uncertainty over the midfielder’s future at the club, according to Diário do Nordeste. The deal includes an improved salary and a longer contract term, reflecting the player's importance to Juan Pablo Vojvoda’s plans for the coming seasons.
Interest from Athletico Paranaense had complicated negotiations in recent weeks, with the Curitiba club pushing for Sasha’s immediate signing. Fortaleza responded decisively, ensuring their experienced midfielder remains in the squad by securing a new deal that will soon be signed.
Sasha, who first arrived at Fortaleza in 2022, has featured in 120 matches for the club. This season, he has played 21 times and remains a key part of the starting line-up. His previous contract was set to expire at the conclusion of the 2025 campaign, leaving him eligible to negotiate with other clubs from the start of July.
His renewal comes at an important juncture for Fortaleza, as the team prepare for the Clássico Rei against Ceará on Sunday—a fixture where Sasha is expected to play a prominent role. With the club in need of stability and leadership amid a challenging Serie A campaign, retaining an established figure in midfield is seen by the Tricolor board as a priority.
The 35-year-old’s continued presence also helps to maintain experienced voices within a squad that has undergone significant changes in recent windows. Fortaleza’s leadership group, including captain Tinga and players like Joāo Ricardo and Lucero, has placed emphasis on unity and collective effort in the face of recent setbacks, including elimination from the Copa do Nordeste and a difficult spell in the league, as reported by NE45.
With the contract uncertainty now resolved, Sasha will be available for selection for Sunday’s derby at the Arena Castelão, a match that carries not just city bragging rights but also potential implications for Fortaleza’s standing in the relegation battle. The club will be hoping his reliability and experience contribute both on and off the pitch as they attempt to turn their form around in the weeks ahead.
