Chuba Akpom, a product of Arsenal‘s youth academy, showcased his goal-scoring prowess with a stunning hat-trick for Ajax in their 4-1 victory over Jagiellonia Białystok in the Europa League playoffs.

Akpom, who spent a decade at Arsenal before departing in 2018, expressed his delight at his performance, declaring it his “best match in an Ajax shirt.”

“It’s amazing, I thank God, I thank my teammates, all the staff for all the support,” Akpom told Ajax TV. “Scoring is what I thrive on, it’s what I love to do, so when it’s not happening it gets frustrating but I’m a very positive and persistent person, so I say thank you to the coach for the trust.”

Despite his recent heroics, Akpom’s future at Ajax remains uncertain.

Reports suggest that he may be seeking more regular playing time, something he struggled to secure last season under three different managers.

Although he boasts an impressive goals-per-minute ratio, having scored 15 goals in all competitions despite limited starts, Akpom’s desire for consistent first-team action could lead to a move away from Amsterdam.

Akpom’s journey at Arsenal began at the age of six, progressing through the youth ranks and making his first-team debut in 2013.

Despite showing early promise, he struggled to establish himself in the senior squad, embarking on several loan spells before eventually leaving for Greek side PAOK in 2018.

His recent hat-trick marks a significant milestone in his career, proving his ability to perform on the European stage which should help him find a new home if he still wants to move.
