Barcelona may be turning their attention to a familiar name this summer – Xavi Simons.

According to Catalunya Radio, the RB Leipzig star is once again being linked with a return to the Camp Nou, where he spent part of his youth career before leaving in 2019.

The Catalan club have long admired the Dutch talent, and recent reports suggest they could reignite their interest following the collapse of their move for Nico Williams.

Simons, now 22, is reportedly eager to leave Leipzig this summer. While his future remains uncertain, his name has surfaced as a potential alternative for Barça, especially as Hansi Flick continues to shape his new project.

The word from Germany is that he could cost between €70–80 million, a figure similar to Liverpool’s Luis Diaz, another player high on Barça’s wishlist.

One of Europe’s brightest talents

Despite a quieter second season in Germany, Simons remains one of the most exciting young prospects in Europe.

He played 33 matches for Leipzig last season, scoring 11 goals and providing 8 assists. While injuries limited his consistency, his technical skill, creativity, and versatility made him a standout figure for the Bundesliga side.

Capable of playing across the front line and in midfield, Simons brings a dynamic profile that would suit Flick’s high-tempo, fluid style of play.

His potential and previous connection to La Masia have kept him in the conversation at Barça, even though the club’s current priorities lie elsewhere.

Barcelona’s main focus right now is on signing Luis Diaz, whose situation with Liverpool appears more advanced.

A move for Simons, though attractive on paper, would be difficult due to his high price tag, one that the Catalans are unlikely to meet unless player sales provide some breathing room.

Still, with the transfer window in full swing, and Barcelona always alert to market opportunities, Xavi Simons remains a name worth watching in the weeks to come.
