According to reports in Portugal, former Inter owners Suning are on the verge of investing €80m to purchase club Portimonense.

The website ZeroZero claim that a source close to the negotiations confirmed the agreement is ready to go into the crucial stage.

It would seemingly include the purchase of the Portimao sporting complex and the training centre for the Under-23 team.

However, the process would take up to 12 months to finalise, so they hope to have a deal done by 2025.

Portimonense currently play in the Portuguese second division, as they were relegated at the end of last season, finishing 16th out of 18 teams.

Suning back in football after losing Inter

This would be a swift return to the world of football for Suning, the Chinese company run by the Zhang family that was in charge of Inter from 2016 to 2024.

They lost control of the Serie A side on May 22 after failing to repay the €395m debt to Oaktree Capital Management, so the club was effectively repossessed.

That included a three-year refinancing loan and the very high interest rate.
