Signed as a free agent after his spell with Dundee United came to an end, there was an air of hope and expectation that the man from Switzerland could come into the club and continue the form that we had all witnessed as a great shot-stopper whilst at our Scottish Premiership rivals.
It wasn’t to be though as Benjamin was rarely seen in these parts following that move and on the odd occasion he was given a nod, never instilled the same confidence as Super Joe Hart.

Seigrist’s signing is another that will be marked down as a failure in a sorry list of players that scouted and brought to the club in recent seasons. Although there were some notable successes, like Alistair Johnston, the recent recruitment at Celtic Park will be remembered mostly for a multitude of signings that didn’t come anywhere near the standard required.

Celtic have been fortunate to manage to spin a small profit on Alexandro Bernabei who failed to make the grade and with Seigrist, he was fortunately signed for nothing and there was no significant outlay for him.
Meanwhile, Pete O’Rouke of Football Insider has revealed Benji is on the move once again, heading to Genoa in Italy’s Serie A from Rapid Bucharest. He gave the following update via Twitter (X):
“Former Celtic goalkeeper Benjamin Siegrist is having a medical at Genoa ahead of a move to Italy from Rapid Bucharest.”
That actually looks like a decent move for the former Celtic goalkeeper and obviously if he’s been getting game time at Rapid Bucharest he could have re-discovered his form that was apparent during his time at Tannadice.
